Prithviraj’s wife Sanyogita
Prithviraj Chauhan was a king of the Chauhan dynasty who ruled parts of present-day Rajasthan, Haryana, and Delhi in India from the late 12th century to the early 13th century. Sanyogita, also known as Sanyukta, was Prithviraj’s wife and a princess of the Tomar dynasty.
According to legend, Prithviraj first saw Sanyogita at her swayamvara, a ceremony in which a princess chooses her own husband from among a group of suitors. Prithviraj, who was not invited to the ceremony, disguised himself as a beggar and managed to win Sanyogita’s heart by displaying his archery skills. When Sanyogita’s father, the Tomar king, learned of her choice, he refused to let her marry Prithviraj, who was a rival king. However, Prithviraj and Sanyogita eloped and eventually got married.
Their story has been immortalized in various folk songs, poems, and works of literature in India. They are often regarded as one of the greatest love stories in Indian history.
