Sahir Ludhianvi was an Indian poet and film lyricist who was born on March 8, 1921, in Ludhiana, Punjab, India. His birth name was Abdul Hayee, but he later adopted the pen name Sahir, which means “magician” in Urdu.
Ludhianvi is regarded as one of the greatest Urdu poets of the 20th century, known for his powerful and socially conscious poetry. He wrote lyrics for many Bollywood films, including classics like Pyaasa, Naya Daur, and Kabhi Kabhie.
Ludhianvi was also a member of the Progressive Writers’ Movement, a literary movement that emerged in the 1930s and aimed to use literature as a means of promoting social and political change. His poetry often dealt with themes of social justice, poverty, and the human condition.
Ludhianvi passed away on October 25, 1980, in Mumbai, India, but his poetry and lyrics continue to inspire and resonate with people across generations.
