
Scheme for Infrastructure Development in Minority Institutions (IDMI)
IDMI has been made operational to augment the infrastructure in private aided/unaided minority schools/institutions so as to enhance the quality of education for minority children. The salient features of IDMI are as follows:
- The scheme will facilitate minorities in education by increasing and strengthening the school infrastructure in minority institutions so that the facilities are extended for formal education to the children of minority communities.
- The scheme will cover the entire country but preference will be given to minority institutions (private aided/unaided schools) located in districts, blocks and towns with a minority population of more than 20 percent.
- The scheme will, inter alia, encourage educational facilities for girls, children with special needs and those who are educationally disadvantaged among minorities.
- The scheme will finance infrastructure development of private aided/unaided institutions and existing schools, including additional classrooms, science/computer lab rooms, library rooms, toilets, drinking water facilities and hostels for children, especially girls.
