Rajasthan Revamps School Meals with Comprehensive Training for Mid-Day Meal Cooks

Rajasthan Government Launches Training for Mid-Day Meal Cooks

The Rajasthan Government has taken a significant step towards enhancing the quality of the Mid-Day Meal Scheme in government schools by initiating a comprehensive training program for cook-cum-helpers. This initiative is aimed at improving the overall implementation of the scheme, focusing on the quality and hygiene of the meals provided to the students.

Training Program Overview

The training sessions are scheduled to take place from January 29, 2024, to January 31, 2024, at the Institute of Hotel Management (IHM), Banipark, Jaipur. The program is designed to equip the cook-cum-helpers with essential skills and knowledge in various areas such as the cooking process, health safety, cleanliness, food grain storage, and the preparation of nutritious meals.

Objectives and Benefits

The primary goal of this training is to ensure that the meals served to students are not only tasty but also meet the highest standards of nutrition and hygiene. By doing so, the government aims to contribute positively to the health and well-being of school-going children.

Master Trainer Development

A key feature of this program is the preparation of approximately 500 cook-cum-helpers as Master Trainers. These Master Trainers will be responsible for disseminating the knowledge and skills they acquire to their peers across every block in the state, thus amplifying the impact of the training.

Selection Criteria

The selection process for the training program mandates that each district identifies 10 cook-cum-helpers who are skilled, experienced, and qualified to be developed as Master Trainers. In cases where schools employ more than two cook-cum-helpers, only one individual will be chosen to participate in the program. The selected candidates’ details are to be promptly forwarded to the department.

Travel Allowance

Participants of the training program will be compensated for their actual travel expenses. This cost will be covered by the MME funds allocated to the respective schools. The Rajasthan Government’s initiative is a commendable effort to improve the Mid-Day Meal Scheme’s standards. By focusing on the training and development of the individuals at the heart of meal preparation, the state is poised to make a significant impact on the nutritional status and academic performance of its students.
